Synopsis

The main objective of this book is to describe the French cultural heritage in San Rafael, Veracruz, Mexico, through a qualitative study conducted through interviews conducted in 2023 with 12 descendants of French families who settled in the area at the beginning of the 19th century. The testimonies collected were grouped into different heritages: linguistic, musical, gastronomic, material, architectural, and that of customs and traditions. Revealing these traits and characteristics brought by French settlers that influenced the consolidation of a new form of cultural expression constitutes not only a historical reference for the culture established in San Rafael and the region, but also an example of survival, adaptation, and interculturality. Therefore, this book aims to be a contribution to raising reader awareness about this cultural heritage that still endures in San Rafael and the region.
